Mexican Inspired, Demonstration Garden

On your next visit please check out our new, Mexican inspired, demonstration garden. The garden is located on the edge of our parking area in front of the fence. The garden is planted with herbs, vegetables, and flowers used in Mexican dishes and crafts.

What’s new at The Glass Garden Shoppe. Every Tuesday and Friday our very own local farmer, Betty Jo Blagdon and her friend Lorraine Dooley, host a Famers Market from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm, here at The Glass Garden Shoppe. Be sure to visit The Shoppe on market day! You will not only be greeted with fresh and wonderful, locally grown vegetables and fruit, but you will also receive a recipe of tasty delights to try and enjoy! The market will remain open for the rest of the growing season.

Master Gardeners of Southern Maryland Demostration

The Glass Garden Shoppe will host the Master Gardeners of Southern Maryland at 2:00PM on Saturday June 19 at the Shoppe. Container gardening will be the topic. If you wanted to know how to grow all type of plants in containers, here is a great oppurtunity to get expert advise form local master gardeners. Space is limited and first come first served. Telephone registration will save you a seat. So sign up early, and be prepared to learn, so you can have the best container garden in your neighborhood.

Betty Joe Vegetable Packs

Come and try the special Vegetable packs made by a local grower Betty Joe. This vegetables will be quite tasty when grown. Don’t wait long, they are going fast.

 

ZUCCHINI MEDLEY

EARLY GOLDEN CROOKNECK – Meaty fruits with small crooknecks have bright yellow bumpy skin. Delicious flavor and fine texture. Harvest in about 53 days.

BURPEE HYBRID ZUCCHINI – Glossy, medium-green cylindrical fruits are tender and delicious. Heavy yielding plants are bush-like and compact. Harvest in about 50 days.

BURPEE’S GOLDEN ZUCCHINI – Beautiful glossy, bright golden colored fruits with a delicious and distinctive zucchini flavor. Harvest in about 54 days.

BURPEE’S FORDHOOK ZUCCHINI – Cylindrical, smooth, dark green fruits have creamy white, tender flesh. Space saving bush-type plants. Harvest in about 57 days.

GOURMET SUMMER SQUASH MEDLEY

BUSH BABY – True miniature and ready to harvest at 4-6″. Fruits are glossy and medium dark green with stripes. Semi open plants are easy to harvest. 49 days

PATTY PAN SUNBURST – Good yielder of tender, rounded squash with a scallop. Appetizing color when picked tiny with the blossom still attached, or tea cup sized. A vigorous plant. 1985 AAS winner. 52 days.

EIGHT BALL – Dark green , shiny round zucchini. Open bush plant with a long picking period. For best flavor harvest when fruit is 2-3″. 1999 AAS winner. 50 days.

ITALIAN ROMANESCO – Prized for creamy sweet flesh. The tender, plump fruits are classically striped in dark green with slight ridges. Edible blossoms hold well on fruits to stuff or saute as a summer delicacy. 48 days.

CUCUMBER  MEDLEY

MARKETMORE – Popular non hybrid. 8-9″ fruits stay dark green even under weather stress. Begins bearing late but picks for a long time.58 days.

SWEET SLICE – Popular 8-12″ burpless cucumber, producing uniform, never bitter, dark green fruits on moderately vigorous vines. 50-60 days.

MINIATURE WHITE – Prolific bearer of small white pickling cucumbers, delicious for fresh eating. Thin-skinned tender fruits have a mild sweet flavor. 48 days.

SATSUKI MADORI – Very rare Asian variety. Long slender fruits have tender skin and few seeds. Extremely delicious and never bitter. 10-16″ fruits. 60-70 days.
